    Makita Chuck Wobble

Having used Makita cordless drills for many years this is not a problem that I have experienced and never had to use the warranty. Can you explain "The chuck wobbles where it's connected to the clutch assembly." or give more detail in as much as some figures, is it run out or bearings ?

Fire safety/Fire extinguishers - what to buy etc

Each type of extinguisher is aimed at a different type of fire, one of the best used to be Halon until it was banned as it is an anti-oxidant and not good if used incorrectly. CO2 is good on electrical and petrol / diesel but not a chip pan where a damp towel is better. Powder is messy but a...

Looking to buy a replacement router for a UKJ lift without a NVR switch?

I would also add that it is ok for the money but not the best solution, for that you need a router motor like the AUK in a decent lift and not just hanging a plunge router in your table.

That is like a portable / handheld table saw except you do not need push sticks !

Looking to buy a replacement router for a UKJ lift without a NVR switch?

I have not had any issues with reliability using a TRA001 except the inbuilt lift was not smooth but once you use the knob to get it to rough height and only use the handle above the table to fine tune it works. As for fumbling under the table it is not hard to modify so a remote switch can be...

    Battery Fire Risks

What happened to the "only tackle a fire if it is safe to do so" message. You have to apply a little common sense and not just don't bother and watch a house or shed burn down. Tacking a lithium fire might be pointless though because it still burns when smothered and total submersion seems...

    Battery Fire Risks

I think this is a problem when the device is some unknown import, cheap E-Scooters and such more than cordless batteries on powertools from the known brands. Buying non OEM batteries is an issue as they have had some serious problems because they are cheap for a reason, charging is often...

Mitre saw - Rutland V Makita

When thinking of a mitre saw I think Bosch, Makita, Dewalt but never Rutlands. Unfortunately you have found out that buying cheap is buying at least twice so spending that bit more for something that will give years of service is really the way to go.

10" bandsaw - Record or Charnwood?

Something else to bear in mind is that stated blade size, in my opinion they may fit but cannot be tensioned which I found on the BS400 which apparently takes a 1 inch blade but it only just tensions a 3/4 and is more comfortable with 5/8. So if you need a given blade size then make sure the...

    An easy option for MFT's

Surprised no ones brought this up, Benchdogs now sell MFT tops and in Medite or Valchromate. Std size of 1102 x 718 x 18mm or custom sizes upto 8 by 4 but then collection only. https://benchdogs.co.uk/collections/mft-tops The prices seem reasonable but much better if you can collect, so...

Buying advice - multitool, random orbital sander and router

Batteries have non linear discharge curves, 18 volt 6 amp hour battery should give 6 amps for 1 hour, probably 12 amps for 20 minutes so it is a law of diminishing returns. Your heavy load discharges the smaller capacity battery because it cannot maintain the current, if you measured it you...

10" bandsaw - Record or Charnwood?

If you compare the footprints of bandsaws they do not change a great deal, it is the height that does. When I was looking at the Record BS350 some years back and then saw the 350 and the 400 together it was only a few inches in height difference as the 400 sat on the floor and not on a cabinet...

Buying advice - multitool, random orbital sander and router

An 18 volt 3 amp hour battery will deliver exactly the same power as an 18 volt 4 amp hour battery but for less duration, ie power will fall off quicker as it has less capacity.

Metal stud work in garage conversion

If A1 fire rating is not required, ie wall behind woodburner or lining chimney breast then wood is the better option, gives a more solid wall that deadens sound and is easier to build than metal studs. So why metal studs, they do not suffer from wood movement, can be slung up fast and are...

    So it happened.........what next

Looking at the UK we are a nation of warehouses and logistics as we are more consumers than manufacturers so I would have thought getting another job in the same line would not be difficult and I also think age can be on your side as the older folk are seen as more reliable and not work shy...

How to become a qualified skilled carpenter

Some bit of paper is not going to hang a door or fit a staircase, you might be the most highly qualified carpenter around but if you cannot do the job and meet expectations you are not going to be much use as you will never learn in a classroom what you will on the job. Your problem is that...

    Looking for guidance on angles

For a lot of good information on doing these task, rather than look for info on skirting boards look for baseboard which is the american term and they do seem to do a lot more fancy trim work than we do. The problem now is finding good videos that can be watched without the distracting and...

    Stolen tools news article

What difference will this make, tools will always be stolen if there are no deterents and the police are often not interested as it is insignificant when it comes to allocating resources. Boot fairs are probably not that huge for selling stolen powertools, fake goods are going to be more...

    God Bless !!

Yes another aspect of big brother marketing, shove what you want to shift in peoples faces with a little discount and watch it sell. Often best to walk past and find the item on the shelf in it's normal place unless you wish to consume that day otherwise you are not only buying that item...
