Can anyone recommend books on the fundamentals of finishing? Not a book on any particular technique but how to prepare and finish pieces prepared with hand tools.
Is that too vague?
I kept reading that the No3 was often the favourite smooth plane, I have a No4 but have only recently really started to play with hand tools.
I have a relatively large hand, size 8 or 9 gloves, but I find the No 3 doesn't feel right after the No4.
I'm in the middle of a bench build. I quite like the idea of the lower metal bar on this vise, instead of a board with holes and a pin or an X link type similar to the Benchcrafetd version.
Has anyone seen or used one of these, or have any idea of the construction?
I recently purchased one of Kingshotts books but thought this video an excellent introduction to the handplane and how it works. Better than anything I have read or seen before.
I'm thinking about building a shooting plane with a skew blade. How best to cut the blade without it overheating?
I thought carefully score with angle grinder and snap maybe?
This trap drips. As far as I know its had a good life, kitchen was bought in 1989.
I like to think I'm fairly green. If I was in England, where the tap is, I'd try and fix it. washer? seal? valve seat?
I admit I have never fitted anything other than a cartridge tap but could this not be fixed?

I'm so new to woodturning that I still don't have a lathe. Even the Record 305 is nearly twice the price in Italy delivered.
I was hoping someone could explain the difference between a steb centre and a revolving steb centre?
If I understand correctly the revolving steb centre should prevent a...
Can anyone suggest a supplier of decent quality preferably 125mm abrasive discs with or without holes? If I look for a product, like galaxy PSA from Mirka I can't find a supplier and if I search for psa discs most are hook and loop.
Preferably small quantities as I need a variety of grits.

I have a very limited choice in Italy but have come across the above in France. I can't find much information. Could it be a better choice than a new Record DML305-M33?
Whilst searching for a small secondhand lathe I came across this pair new at a very good price.
I know nothing about turning, are they specialist or might they be useful to someone starting out if the price is right.
I appreciate I would have to buy a handle.
I have never done any turning. Apart from anything else, I have never liked sharpening.
I'd like to make some small handles, like those in the image. It is probably a couple of inches long.
Drilling out the centre will probably be difficult too I imagine.
How might I achieve that without a...
I'm having difficulty locating an inexpensive 3/8" lip and spur bit, I only need to drill 2 holes. Searching from Italy produces mainly American hits.
drilling through 5" of sapele and ash
I had 3 burnishers, I sold one and now I have 2, so one needs to go.
£30 or thereabouts, offers welcome. It will be posted via Royal Mail at cost.
I'm not in UK long so I will remove it once I return home.
I have never carved but I am about to attempt to make myself an infill mitre plane.
One of the videos I saw used an incannel gouge to shape the wedge but from what I can see outcannel seems more common.
Can someone explain how they differ in their use?
