Simple electronics circuit to keep power bank alive?

Good news, thanks for the update ! For your cameras, how about trying those corkscrew type tent pegs and a string tether ? You might get some fun footage of the fox trying to drag the camera away - at least until they work out a way to do it :)

Fire safety/Fire extinguishers - what to buy etc

Back in the day our electronics development labs had many millions of pounds worth of prototype equipment and several full installations used for testing and fault finding. We had halon fire suppression that was turned on when the labs were unattended just as you describe. It displaces oxygen so...

    Makita Chuck Wobble

Is the chuck properly screwed onto the spindle ? For a reversing drill I'd expect to open the jaws wide and see a pozidrive screw at the bottom of the jaws. That will have a screw thread opposite to normal, so drive it clockwise to unscrew it. Then with the drill in low gear make sure the chuck...

Simple electronics circuit to keep power bank alive?

Our neighbour shared some clips of hedgehogs in the garden the other night caught on a wireless security cam that she unhooked and placed where it could see them. Great fun :-)

Simple electronics circuit to keep power bank alive?

200 ohm resistors then :) Or get really wild with an NE556 dual timer and few passives. One timer to give you a pulse every minute, triggering the second to give you a 5 second long pulse for the power bank to detect. A schoolkid would probably design you something with an arduino, fully...

Simple electronics circuit to keep power bank alive?

Simplest of all would be a 200 ohm resistor across the output of the power supply. That will drain 25mA from 5V and dissipate 1/8 Watt. Use a 1/4 or 1/2W resistor to allow for the fact that you will be putting it in something and not leaving it in free air. If on a trail cam, LEDs are...

Metabo Vacuum M class or H class

Your camvac is 1,2,3 vacuum cleaner motors in a tin can. It's perfectly good for hoovering up. Would it save space and your hard earned cash to just buy a long hose that can reach everywhere without dragging the camvac around ? If you are set on the Metabo, for an extra £40 I'd probably take the...

Is a full size guide rail worth it?

The TS55 was my first tracksaw so I bought an 800 and 1400 rail and the Festool joiner bars thinking versatility. I quickly realised that 1400 was annoyingly short for cross cutting 8x4's and 2200 was just barely usable for the rips. 2x1400 = 2800 would have been OK but having 1600/3200 is...

Is a full size guide rail worth it?

One of the reasons I swapped from a festool ts55 to the mafell plunge saw was that Mafell (Bosch) have a better system for joining rails and the default rail is a little longer at 1600mm. I bought the twin rail pack and the first job I did with it was a bunch of nearly 3m rips in 2" softwood.

    Saw Sharpening Service Recomendations

For the number or blades and at that quality, it may be worth contacting Anthony at Priestner Saws, Aldford nr Chester. He has some top end German CNC sharpening machines and he does sharpen blades better than new. I know his big account customers send batches of blades in from all round the...

Fire safety/Fire extinguishers - what to buy etc

I suspect electrical fires and kitchen fires are the biggest risk for most of us. That for me means CO2 is the priority and will cause least damage. I have one in the workshop. Should probably have one at each end. Fire blanket by all means. Beyond that, I suspect I could grab a bucket and...

    Table saw safety

For use with small stuff, I find the "classic" push stick cumbersome. When I happen to get a good offcut - something 18" or more, maybe 12"+ if I had a SYS 50, slimmish and stiff - I tend to put them aside. I turn them into push sticks just by rounding off the butt end so they don't dig into the...

    Table saw safety

Very salutory advice. Tiredness was a contributory factor when this went over in the pitch black at 10pm. Fortunately no one ended up in either the hospital or morgue, and with plenty of patience and the right tools on a nice day some weeks later, it was just a one man job to right it.

    Table saw safety

To her very great credit, @BarbaraT shared her tablesaw misadventures with us all a number of months ago. The thread inspired a great deal of discussion. https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/threads/table-saw-kickback-and-trimmed-finger-graphic-description-images.145485/ Read it carefully and...

    Grow your own ... 'shrooms

I would say mild, but good. Just a few minutes in olive oil with some fresh thyme to colour them. Fairly hot and this creates a chewy / crispy texture rather than soggy. Then a good dollop of butter and couple of cloves of garlic for the last 2-3 minutes.

    Vacuum / dust collection

Consider buying another hose for your vacuum. It is easy enough to adapt the fittings if needed. Mirka antistatic hoses are more flexible than most and competitively priced. That may help. You could splash out the £100+ and get the funky festool one with the woven outer. That is amazingly...

    Grow your own ... 'shrooms

A couple of weekends ago and inspired by our youngest daughter, my lass treated me to a grow your own mushroom "kit". Cut an opening in the bag, and mist it 3x a day to keep it damp, otherwise nothing involved. That's about my level. Anyway, we follow the instructions and nothing happens for 10...
