Adding a pic of the cross grain cut after using the Makita score function. Very impressive and don't know how I lived without it. Goodbye tear-out

Oh and after having the Makita plunge saw for over a year, I finally discovered it has a 1mm reverse score function. Now I can stop adding decorators tape 😂

Bookcase no2 ready to get into position. Cut outs for one 2-gang socket (mains power) and one 1-gang socket (speaker/audio plate to connect left and right bookcase speakers). Getting a lot more comfortable with the domino, general alignment is a breeze now. The only thing I'm suffering from is...

If I'm being honest with myself I would say that's probably out of my comfort zone, would be terrified of bodging it (more than it already is). Current plan is adapt around it with filler panels and face frames.

I like that idea. The problem I've got is, well it's a travesty really, the previous owners had a built-in cupboard installed in that corner... The installer thought it would look awesome if they cut around a 100 year old mantelpiece to fit their unit🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ so I'm basically forced into...

Alright let's put a line through this divergence, don't want this to turn into a fight over the merits of books on display 😂 If you don't like books displayed I'd highly recommend not clicking on a thread titled "Home library"

Thanks! Basically will have 4 main towers then on another wall have a desk/bookcase combo to make. Starting to pick up speed, only glue + clamp time slowing me down, second carcass ready to assemble tomorrow. Used the back to square everything up. Chimney breast is well off level, I knew this...

She's underway... Took longer than I care to admit to dial in the plinth alignment. Because the bookcase will meet over the window I had to not only ensure the individual plinths were level but same height as each other (which across an old warped floor was a bit of fun) In the end I...

    Chamfer router bit

Ah missed these latest posts, will have to add more bearings to my next order. Went for the edge bead AND chamfer bits as both will be of future use and gives me a chance to have a play around to see which finish I prefer on this particular project

    Festool domino: benefits + price

No you didn't. Maybe I misinterpreted your unnecessarily presumptuous and aggressive tone.

    Festool domino: benefits + price

Think we've all digressed a bit here. I've got the answer. The plastic built in stop units are to accomodate it's primary domestic market in Germany where this would align to centre the domino as their engineers intend. Is it possible and absolutely fine to use these as rough approximations...

    Festool domino: benefits + price

While tenons are primarily designed to resist longitudinal forces (forces pulling or pushing along the length of the joint), they can also contribute some resistance to transverse forces (forces applied perpendicular to the joint) depending on the joint design and additional features. Main...

    Festool domino: benefits + price

I disagree re no inherent benefit. From a strength/structural perspective and for the very same reason dowels are centered. It distributes the pressure of the joint more evenly across the entire dowel/domino and the surrounding wood. This creates a stronger bond between the two pieces of wood...
