    Helping at a repair cafe

I think I’d take a basic set of tools as mentioned pliers , screwdrivers , small socket set The soldering iron and multimeter mentioned above is a good call , tbh I no experience in repair cafes but as ghe organiser can’t be bothered to be there to introduce you to the members then just treat it...

    Table saw safety

Absolutely right, I set my job site saw up and checked it about 20 times , I didn’t switch it on until I was a 100% . I asked the members here about the gripper you mentioned and if it’s the one where you remove the gaurd and the riving knife then don’t use it for your t/saw . The good folk here...

    Table saw safety

best way forward is to take your time , there is no rush, get to know your saw , make sure you know how to adjust it properly so the blade is square to the mitre slot/ gauge and likewise square to the fence . Never exceed your reach and be extra cautious with long pieces or large sheet goods-...

    Table saw safety

As an amateur user of the larger woodworking machines t/saw and bandsaw and r/table I still have all my digits. Most of that is down to my own ways of working safely, constantly risk assessing and the natural desire not to put any body part near anything that can spin faster than I can move or...

Mitre saw - Rutland V Makita

Experience over the years has taught me to buy the best I can afford and if can’t afford brand new then a well cared for 2nd hand machine will outperform a cheaper inferior brand. Something about rutlands power tools says don’t buy me I’m cheap and ugly and I won’t last long before breaking...

    Vacuum / dust collection

I have small shop vac connected to a small cyclone , great for smaller tools like sander small to medium router. Larger tools like t/saw and planer / thicknesser large router may need a dedicated extraction system. Depends what you’re producing dust chips or shavings. My space is limited so I...

    So it happened.........what next

I read your post and understand your situation- many years of experience at various management levels but no real qualifications but experience imo is worth far more than a few letters on a bit of fancy paper. You have already reduced your expenditures and no doubt will continue to .depending on...

External "french door set" - off the peg recommendations?

Difficult to judge on one negative review but easy enough to pop into b n q if you have one nearby ,, personally I’d err on the side of caution especially at just shy of £800 especially if your skill set can produce better for a lot less .

    Newbie with Front Door Question

I don’t think you need to go back to bare wood unless you’re changing the colour. Just remove the top coat of what looks like varnish or varnish/stain . A good quality yacht or exterior varnish should have it back to its former glory . If your concerned with the damage towards the bottom of the...
